The Faculty of Agricultural Engineering (FAE) of Kerala
Agricultural University was constituted in 1984. Kelappaji College of
Agricultural Engineering and Technology (KCAET) is the only college under
this Faculty and is the only College in Kerala offering undergraduate
and postgraduate programs in Agricultural Engineering. It was formally
inaugurated on October 2, 1985 and the four-year B.Tech. (Agrl. Engg.)
degree program started there a few months later. The Post Graduate program
in Agricultural Engineering, started in 1979 under the Faculty of Agriculture,
was also shifted to Tavanur campus from the main campus at Vellanikkara..
Today the College offers the undergraduate program leading to B. Tech.
(Agrl. Engg.) Degree and Post Graduate Program leading to M. Tech. Degree
in two disciplines, namely, Soil and Water Engineering and Farm Power
and Machinery. About 250 Agricultural Engineers have so far graduated
from the College and most of them serve the public and private sectors
within the country or abroad.
The Faculty of Agricultural Engineering and Technology
consists of FIVE departments. They are:
- Department of Land and Water Resources and Conservation Engineering
(LWRCE)
- Department of Irrigation and Drainage Engineering (IDE)
- Department of Farm Power, Machinery and Energy (FPME)
- Department of Post Harvest Technology & Agricultural Processing
(PHTAP)
- Department of Supportive and Allied Courses of Study (SAC)
The well established library of the college has a collection
of above 18000 books, appreciable collection of past volumes of journals,
current journals and periodicals. Theory is visualized practically through
the well equipped laboratories in all fields. Experiments conducted here
give opportunity for the students to encounter practical difficulties
faced in the field. The institution has a computer centre with large number
of personal computers and internet facility to get in touch with the latest
developments taking place in the world. The central workshop facility
of the college is a full fledged one. The college also maintains an instructional
farm with around 80 acres.
