Mahatma Phule Krishi Vidyapeth (MPKV) , Rahuri
is one of the premier Agricultural University established in 1969 for
Western Maharashtra having jurisdiction spread over ten districts viz:
Ahmednagar, Dhule, Jalgaon, Kolhapur, Nandurbar, Nasik, Pune, Sangli,
Satara, and solapur. The university is named after a great social reformer
Mahatma jyotiba Phule, The education, research and extension education
are three principal functions of this university. From a modest beginning
in 1969, over the years the university has expanded its horizon far and
wide.
The under graduate education programme leading to a bachelors degree
in Agriculture, Horticulture and Agricultural Engineering is being operated
at colleges located at Pune, Dhule and Kolhapur for Agricultural sciences
and at Rahuri for B. Tech. The Post graduate program is operated in the
faculty of Agriculture and Agricultural Engineering at Rahuri.
The research is carried out at the central campus and at four zonal stations.
The research on dry farming is being conducted at Solapur, on sugarcane
at Padegaon, on oilseeds at Jalgaon and on wheat at Niphad. Whereas at
central campus Rahuri research on fruit crops, vegetable, cotton, pulses,
food crops and water management studies are being conducted.
The Agricultural Technology Information (ATIC) is a single window delivery
dissemination and supporting system for various innovative and farm worthy
techniques evolved at the university and affiliated organization in the
pursuit of research and excellence.
Recently the university has been honored by the prestigious award "Sardar
Patel best university 2002 "
